Rev. Stanley Mckenzie

Rev. Stanley Curtiss McKenzie, age 98, of Battle Creek passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Northpointe Woods. He was born August 11, 1915 in Flint, Michigan the son of Alexander and Ginevra A. (Jewett) McKenzie. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1933. Mr. McKenzie went on to attend Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, Illinois graduating in 1940. He served churches in Three Rivers, Cooper, Lansing Bethel, Norvell and Battle Creek Fairfax. In 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and went on to serve two tours of duty as an Army Chaplain in Europe both during and after WWII, and also a tour in Korea. He retired in 1975 as a Lieutenant Colonel and was awarded the Bronze Star, European Theatre Ribbon and Korean War three battle stars. Rev. McKenzie attended Western Michigan University following his two tours in WWII and received a B.A. degree in 1949 and a B.S. degree in 1950. Following his tour in Korea, he returned home and taught Junior High School in Holt, Michigan from 1957 to 1977. He enjoyed stamp collecting, fishing and gardening. Surviving are three daughters: Carol Byrd of Lebanon, OH, Marjorie Marshall of Atlantic Mine, MI and Joyce Banks of Ypsilanti, MI; five grandsons and three great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by two wives: C. Arline Carroll and Helen L. Locke; one sister, Alice G. Barg and one brother, Donald A. McKenzie. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Metzger of Lakeview Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfax Baptist Church or Lakeview Baptist Church.
