Phyllis Lorraine Shook, a long-time resident of the Battle Creek area, died Tuesday February 23, 2016 at Zephyrhills Florida Hospital at the age of 88. She was born April 17, 1927 in Durand Michigan the daughter of Eugene and Ora (Colf) Goul. A 1945 graduate of Durand High School, she attended most every class reunion including last year which was the 70th. She went on to graduate in 1948 from the Leila School of Nursing and was a member of the last graduating class of United States Cadet Nurse Corps. She retired from the V.A. Hospital in Battle Creek on February 1, 1990 where she had served for 30 years as a Registered Nurse. She is survived by her children: Eugene H. Shook of Battle Creek, Allen L. (Linda) Shook of Fort Worth, TX, Noreen F. Shook of Monterey, CA and Jeanine K. (John) Babcock of Portage; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; sister: Marilyn Simmons of Dade City, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Don H. Shook and one brother Gerald Goul. She loved writing letters and sending cards, good food and socializing, knitting mittens, scarves, handmade quilts for all the grandchildren and great grandchildren, traveled all over the world, enjoyed watching sporting events, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Chad Parmalee of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
