Phillip Byron Sidnam, 76 of Athens, MI., and formerly of Battle Creek and Kalamazoo MI, passed away and went to be with his beloved wife, Patricia, and his personal savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 26th, peacefully in his sleep.

Phillip, known by most as Phil, was born on December 27, 1947 to Philo Sidnam and Louise Sidnam (Childs) in Battle Creek, MI. He was the youngest of 4 children. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1966. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served 2 years in Vietnam. He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Gray, on January 16, 1969 and was married 52 years until her passing in 2021. Phil raised Patricia's 5 children as his own.

Phil was employed by United Steel & Wire company from 1969-1980 when the company closed. He then was employed by the Hi-Lex Corporation from 1982-2007. During his employment at Hi-Lex, he had 19 years in a row perfect attendance. After retirement, Phil then worked part-time at the Kalamazoo Senior Center and also helped his wife sell Avon for 25 years.

Phil was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to golf, Michigan Wolverines, the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Pistons. He loved to travel, play cards, golf, and watch his children/grandchildren play sports. He loved music of all kinds, and instilled music into all of his children’s lives. 

Phil had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and loved the Lord with his whole heart. He's belonged to many assembly of God churches in the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek area, and always did his part to serve the Lord. 

Phil is survived by his Brother Thomas Sidnam (Noreen) of Battle Creek, Sons Robert V. Hartung of Grand Rapids, Mark S. Hartung of Athens, MI., Daughters Christine M. Isbell of Parma, MI., Teresa J. Hartung of Battle Creek, MI., and Melissa K. Keyes (Jim) of Battle Creek, MI. He also had thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. 

Phil is preceded in death by his father Philo Sidnam, mother Louise Sidnam (Childs), Wife Patricia Sidnam (Gray), brother Burt Sidnam (Susie), and Sister Karen Adkins.

There will be a celebration of life for Phil on September 14th, 2024 at 1p.m. at the Fort Custer Christian Assembly Church at 301 Custer Drive, Battle Creek, MI. 49037. Luncheon directly after. Donations in his honor can be made to the Fort Custer Christian Assembly Church.
