Pamela Cynthia Lane Bates, age 89, of Battle Creek passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Bronson at Home Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, Michigan. Pam was born April 5, 1926 in Seven Oaks, England. Pam was the daughter of Hubert Edward Firmstone Onions and Veronica Cynthia (Lane) Onions. Both her parents preceded her in death.
Pamela was married June 3, 1945 at St. Nicholas’ Church, Seven Oaks, England to Alfred M. Bates, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two daughters: Nicki Traas (John) and Darlene Van Syckle, both of Battle Creek, Michigan. She has 4 grandchildren: Angela Olson of Battle Creek, Michigan; Shannon Villanueva of Orlando, Florida, Ann Cooper of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Russell Bartzen of Orlando, Florida; and 9 great-grandchildren: Zachary and Hailey Olson of Battle Creek, Mi, Gino and Vincent Villanueva, Jordan, Kelton and Connor Bartzen; all of Orlando, Florida, Jonathen Cooper of Clarksville, TN, and Molly Mcfarland of Columbus, Ohio.
Pam worked for the Oliver Corporation, then Transamerica Insurance Company in Battle Creek. She retired from Transamerica in 1986 to move to Florida. After moving to Florida she became Office Manager for Bill Bryan State Farm Insurance Agency, and retired from there in 2012.
Pam was an avid reader, never without a book in her purse or hand. She also liked fishing, camping, and traveling within Michigan and Canada.
At this time there will be no service per her request. Her ashes will be taken back to Orlando, Florida to be interred in the Rose Garden at St. Mary of the Angels Episcopal Church which she attended for many years, and where her husband, mother and son-in-law are also buried. www.henryfuneralhome.org
