Norman E. Denney, 61, of Sherwood, Michigan passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Borgess Medical Center of multiple health issues. Norm was born September 1, 1954 to Frances (Hovarter) and Peter Denney and had resided in the Athens area for most of his life. Norm was a member of the Athens High School Class of 1972 and had been employed in several factories, in construction, was a co-owner of K-C Expediting and most recently worked for Stanton Farms. He enjoyed fast cars and drag racing at Martin U.S. 131 Dragway. Norm was a consummate “shade tree” mechanic and was happiest while tinkering and tuning an engine. Norm loved his family, his faithful dog “Honky”, his ’70 Chevy Nova, rock music and big family dinners. His favorite dessert was Boston Cream Pie. Norm is survived by his Mom, Darlene Denney; three brothers: David Denney of Athens, Timothy (Dawn) Denney of Lapeer and Patrick (Denise) Denney of East Leroy; sister, Suzan (James) Novak of Dryden; several nieces, nephews and grandnephews, and three special aunts: Martha Denney of Sherwood, Sharon McCausland of Durango, CO and Kay Bickle of Centreville. Norm was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents: Owen “Stub” and Muriel Hovarter, and Fred and Goldie Denney. According to Norm’s wishes cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at North Sherwood Cemetery on East M-60 (near the Denney farm where he grew up) with Pastor Fred Goebert from the Factoryville Bible Church officiating. There will be a gathering with refreshments immediately following at the Factoryville Bible Church, 33650 Factoryville Road, Athens, Michigan 49011.
