Nellie R. Carter, age 85, of Pennfield Twp., passed away on February 10, 2020 at Bronson Battle Creek. She was born on June 19, 1934 in Mesick, MI., the daughter of Henry and Laura (Conine) Arlt. Nellie came to Battle Creek at the age of ten. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1951. Nellie was united in marriage on November 11, 1951 to Wesley E. Carter, he preceded her in death in 2014. Also preceding her in death are her parents, sisters; Thersa Doan, Helen Haroff, brothers; Amil, Joe, Fred Arlt, great grandchildren; Mia and Isaiah Fox. . Nellie and her husband spent many winters in Lakeland, Florida. Nellie was previously employed by Verona Home Laundry from 1949 to 1953, Oliver Aviation from 1953 to 1959, and the Kellogg Company from 1963 till her retirement in 1996 after thirty three years of service. She was a member of the North Avenue Church of God and the Kellogg 25 Year Club. Nellie enjoyed bowling, Bingo, gardening, travel, and especially trips and dinners at the casino. She loved spending time with her family, especially all her grandchildren. Surviving are her children; Rita (Mike) Jenkins of East Leroy, Nancy Carter of Battle Creek, Ronnie (Linda) Carter of Battle Creek, Rebecca (Kurt) Bunce of Pennfield, Twp., sister; Judy Weinberger of Battle Creek, twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2020 at North Avenue Church of God, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A celebration of Life will follow the service. Rev. Jeff Eckman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Lake Association.
