Ned A. Vahldieck, born to life January 14, 1925, born to eternal life July 9, 2012.
Ned was born in Milwaukee, WI January 14, 1925 as second child to Reuben P. and Mayme (Jaeckels) Vahldieck.
On April 8, 1950 Ned married Mary Dettmann, and they have two daughters, Jill (Michael) Crim, of Battle Creek and Amy (Donald) Sticksel, of Portland, OR. Other survivors are granddaughters, Amy (Nathan) Wirth, of Battle Creek and Erin Crim, of St. Louis, MO; and great granddaughter, Taylor Wirth (Savannah) of Battle Creek.
Ned was a combat pilot during WWII. He attained the rank of Captain in the Army Air Force, flying B-24 bombers on 35 combat missions from bases in Italy. He was awarded five Air Medals, seven Battle Stars, on his European Theater of Operation Ribbon, and a Distinguished Flying Cross for his accomplishments while serving in the 15th Air Force.
After the war he graduated from University of Wisconsin at Madison with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. He spent most of his working life in the Utility and Energy business. In the years before his retirement in 1993 he was chairman & C.E.O. of Rangeline Corp. an energy marketing firm headquartered in Topeka, KS.
During his utility career he worked for Consumers Power in Battle Creek and was very active in community affairs. Ned is Past President of Rotary, Past President of Battle Creek Chamber of Commerce, Past President of United Community Services, and Past Chairman of United Fund Drive.
With grateful thanks to all Good Samaritan Hospice personnel who brought great comfort to our Ned.
Family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. A private family service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Cary Grant of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice or St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church
