Nadine Jean (Doss) Cleveland, Age 95, Of Battle Creek, MI, Passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Nadine was born in New Castle, PA to Audley E. Rodenbaugh and Bertha Pearce on August 9, 1920. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1938 and sought employment at Shenango China in New Castle, PA. In 1943, Nadine enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC’s). She became a Sergeant and was a weather observer at Stout Field stationed in Indianapolis, IN. While in the service, Nadine met Harold R. Doss, of Downers Grove, IL, also stationed at Stout Field in Indianapolis, IN. They were married in 1945. After an Honorable Discharge from the military, they moved to New Castle, PA, then to Downers Grove and Lombard, IL. In 1957, they moved to Battle Creek, MI. Harold preceded Nadine in death in November 1968. Nadine later met and married Robert E. Cleveland of Battle Creek in February 1974. Robert preceded her in death in January 2007. Nadine was employed by Security National Bank in Battle Creek, Channing Company in Houston, TX, and again by Security National Bank in Battle Creek. She also volunteered at Leila Hospital, currently Bronson Hospital, donating over 5,000 hours of her time. She loved crafts, sewing and was the best cook around. Many came over for dinner for what was called Nadine’s spaghetti sauce. Many of her recipes were included in recipe books created by the bank. Nadine is survived by two daughters, Lauren (Doss) Beam of Simi Valley, CA and Deborah (Doss) Lindsey of Jefferson, TX; a step-daughter, Melody Wilson of Beaverton, MI and a step-son, Robert C. Cleveland of Battle Creek, MI. There are 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 10 great step grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the caregivers who helped our Mom and family during Nadine’s battle with Dementia while living in Lakeview Senior Living and Reflections Memory care. We couldn’t have asked for better caring facilities. Would also like to thank Great Lakes Caring for their Hospice care during her final weeks. Nadine has requested no services or flowers. She felt she had more than her share of happiness in her 95 wonderful years of life. Then place them in my mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me. Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while.
