Mildred Smith

Died Friday, June 22, 2018, at Reflections Assisted Living. Mildred was born on September 18, 1931, in Sparta, TN, the daughter of Thomas R. and Nora Ann (Bumbalaugh) Rice.  She had been a lifelong resident of the area. Mildred married Fred M. Smith who preceded her in death on February 28, 1991. She was in charge of Volunteers at Bailey Park for over 40 years. Mildred was also the former owner of New York, New York restaurant. Surviving is her companion, Harry E. Scheuffele of Battle Creek; a brother, Fred Rice and a sister, Ruth Ada; half-brother, Billy Rice; half-sisters, Reba Morgan, Lena Bailey, Joyce Dearing, Peggy Saffield and Shirley Klein; numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ginny Marie Smith in 1989; 2 brothers and 9 sisters. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2018 at the funeral home with The Rev. Douglas R. Nettleton officiating. Interment will be at Floral Lawn Memorial Garden.
