Michael "Mike" Edwin Zidarevich April 30, 1952 – April 7, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, Michael "Mike" Zidarevich, who left us on April 7, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on April 30, 1952, in Battle Creek, Michigan, he was the second of six children to Joann J. (Burt) and Rudolph M. Zidarevich.

Mike was a proud husband to his wife, Deborah (Wetzel), who was not only his loving companion throughout their 53 years together but also his steadfast caregiver in the final chapter of his life. Deborah’s unwavering love and support were a constant source of comfort to him, and they shared a bond that was the foundation of his strength.

Mike was a proud father to his daughter Jaimi and her husband, Arnaud Gadaix and a grandfather to his cherished grandchildren, Mila and Rémi. His heart swelled with pride whenever he spent time with them, and they brought him immeasurable joy. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he loved nothing more than making them laugh.

Mike graduated from Springfield High School in 1970 where he was a three-season athlete (football, wrestling and track & field), earning multiple awards for his dedication and talent. He was employed at the HDI Federal Center for 25 years, retiring in 2012.

Music was another great love of Mike’s life. He was a guitarist whose passion for music defined much of who he was. Whether he was jamming with friends, sharing his favorite 70s rock songs, or introducing others to new music, Mike’s connection to music was a vital part of his identity. He also had a growing collection of guitars, which he held dear as a reminder of his lifelong love of music. Those who knew him will forever associate him with the sound of a guitar and his infectious enthusiasm for sharing this passion with others.

Mike’s humor was legendary, and his smarta** charm was part of what made him so beloved. He wasn’t always easy and his opinions rarely held back—but those who knew him best understood that beneath that tough exterior was a fiercely loyal heart. We will miss him dearly.

Mike is survived by his mother, Joann Zidarevich, loving wife, Deborah; daughter Jaimi and husband Arnaud Gadaix; and grandchildren Mila and Rémi of The Netherlands. He also leaves behind his brothers Rudolph (Cindy) of Illinois, and sister Mary (Tim) Duggins of California, Steven of Springfield, Michigan, Joseph of California, and John (Joni) of California. In addition, his loving and supportive in-laws, Kathryn (Wetzel) and husband Ronald Scherer, Timothy Wetzel and wife Sue Swanson-Wetzel. A special mention to two of his best friends, Tim Flo and Mike Holden, who have been with and loved Mike through every stage of his life. Lastly, to the above and all extended family members, friends, former colleagues, and all of those who knew and loved him. Thank you.

Funeral service scheduled 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2025 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Reese Cemetery. All are welcome to join us in honoring Mike’s memory and celebrating his life.
