Merlin George Frey, Age 89, Of Battle Creek, Died Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Merlin was born on July 5, 1925, in Charlotte, MI, the son of George W. and Hazel (Rowden) Frey. His family moved to Bellevue, MI, in 1937 where he attended school until 1942 when his family moved to Reading, MI, and he graduated from Reading High School in 1943. He moved to the Ceresco, MI, area in 1945 and worked at a dairy farm in the area. He married the former Wilma Iler in 1950, she preceded him in death in 1982. In 1957, he worked at Ronan and Kunzl in Marshall, was a part-time fireman for Emmett Township during the 1960’s. He was also a Cub Scout Leader and in 1963, was employed by the Kellogg Company in the warehouse Department for 24 years, retiring in 1987. During that time he also worked for Katz Well Drilling Co. In 1984, he married Betty Jean Dayhuff-Kline at the Wesleyan Church. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2015. He enjoyed all forms of woodcrafts, remodeled several homes, all forms of puzzles and his yardwork. They traveled many miles camping in their fifth wheel trailer spending several winters in Florida and Texas. Surviving is a son, Richard (Dawn) Frey; a daughter, Mary Lou Frey; a step-son, David M. (Pamela) Kline; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; a step-grandson, Jason (Darcy) Kline and 3 step- great grandchildren; a brother, Merle (Sue) Frey. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Frey in 2006; a daughter, Merlynn Hinton in 2012; an infant daughter, in 1952; a step-daughter, Nancy J. Bond in 2009; a brother, Milton Frey in 2008 and sisters, Martha Sutter in 2008 and Margie Rial in 2014. Merlin was a very caring person who would help anyone in need. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 6:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2015, at the funeral home with The Rev. Ryan Wolford of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will be at Hicks Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of South Central MI. www.henryfuneralhome.org
