Mary Ellen Maxson, age 100, of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013. She was born November 13, 1912 in Russell, Iowa the daughter of William and Katherine (Williams) Barbour. She moved with her family to Northville, Michigan and graduated from Northville High School, and later moved to Battle Creek in 1935 following her graduation from Hillsdale College where she earned a degree in Biology and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. On October 2, 1937 she was married to Clarke V. Maxson in Topeka, Indiana and from 1965 to 1986 she co-owned with her husband, Maxson Rusco Doors and Windows. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church serving on various committees including President of the Women’s Society. Mrs. Maxson was also the first P.T.A. President at Territorial School. Surviving are two sons: Clarke B. (Mary Jo) Maxson of Metamora, MI and Ted C. (Lucille) Maxson of Portage, MI; three grandchildren: Michelle Maxson, Kimberly (Jeff) Maxson-Stein and Laura (Ray) Lynch; three great-granddaughters; three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 6, 1997; one sister: Alice Allison and three brothers: Paul, Bill and Ross Barbour.  Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Metzger and Rev. Dr. Morris F. Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
