Mary "Mary Jo" Stanton

Mary JoAnn “Mary Jo” Stanton, age 85, of Battle Creek passed away on July 10, 2023.  She was born on December 31, 1937 in Battle Creek, the daughter of John and Arlene (Spalding) Prior.  Mary Jo was an avid golfer.  She loved to garden, cook and spend time with her family and grandchildren. She was a founding member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.  Mary Jo was united in marriage to Edmund A. Stanton Jr. on May 22, 1954, he survives.  Also surviving are her children, Cindy (Mike) Cartwright of Grand Rapids, Edmund (Sue) Stanton III of Battle Creek, Scott (Karen) Stanton of East Leroy, Ten grandchildren, Mike, Ben, Katie, Mary Jo, Eddie, David, Pammy, Jon, Jessie and Zach, twenty great grandchildren, sister, Jackie Haukedahl of Maumee, OH, a special cousin, Debbie Wagner and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Susie Stanton and brothers Gary and John Prior. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on November 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 1079 Riverside Dr., Battle Creek, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
