Mary Ann LeQuier moved from her Battle Creek home to her heavenly mansion on December 25, 2023. She was born January 22, 1934, in Highland Park, Wayne County, Michigan to Henry LeQuier, a mechanic, and Veronica Albert LeQuier, a housewife. There were 4 girls in Mary Ann’s family; she is second to the oldest. One sister has passed. We believe Betty lives in Houston and Veronica in New Mexico. She had a nephew here in Michigan that visited often; he passed away around 2012. In her young years Mary Ann was educated at Coldwater State Home, including vocational training, e.g. drying silverware, reshelving dishes and what she termed being the “errand girl,” delivering messages and letters between buildings. She moved to Battle Creek in 1972, first into a Wabash Avenue group home, then enjoyed living and learning in her Cherry Hill Housing apartment. There she took computer classes and learned to enjoy email messages of encouragement and inquiry about how and what her friends were doing in life. In Cherry Hill she would do errands for those that could not go out or had trouble with transportation. Bus riding ALL over town was her transportation; she had friends that recognized her EVERYWHERE. She would often go to the library to read, especially the Enquirer News. Ask her anything about Battle Creek and she could tell you what was going on or what was new in the city. After breaking her arm and then her hip Mary Ann enjoyed the last few years at The Oaks for medical reasons. Mary Ann’s memory was phenomenal. She remembered the names of families, spouses, where they lived and pretty close to the grade one was in if they were in school. Friends would give her rides to church, her number one Sunday joy. Gospel songs were her favorite pastime. God was important in her life. She served Him by ministering to friends and all people. She encouraged and gave words of hope and love to others. She gave us an example of how to live life, even with handicaps, of how to focus on other’s needs and be a friend. She lived life with joy, peace and love. Mary Ann lived I Corinthians 13. Early in her Battle Creek life Michele Tameris Cook Leatherbery became her case worker to oversee her care, and subsequently her confidant and best friend. Therefore, she was adopted into the hearts of, and included in the family of, Saloma and Glenn Cook, who have gone before her, and their two daughters: Michele and Renee Tameris Lambert. She is survived by many friends including Ann Robertson, Barb Steele and many others. To all those friends we do not know, thank you for blessing Mary Ann with visits, cards and your friendship. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Battle Creek Memorial Park with Rev. Roger Steele officiating. A dessert reception will follow immediately at Battle Creek Bible Church, 567 West Territory Road, Battle Creek, MI. Memorial contributions in memory of Mary Ann may be made to FireBible.org or call (877) 840-4800 to benefit the translation of Bibles that are provided to 64 countries in the native language phone .
