Marion Wood

Marion M. “Woodie” Wood, age 89, of Battle Creek, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Select Specialty Hospital. He was born July 18, 1924 in Sturgis, Michigan the youngest of eleven children to Joseph and Mary (Kibiloski) Wood. He was a 1942 graduate of Sturgis High School and then served his country in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Following his honorable discharge he attended Argubright Business College while working nights at Clark Equipment Company. On February 7, 1948 he was united in marriage to Lena R. Maddalena. After his retirement in September of 1990 from Imperial Tile he continued to work at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Server. He was also a member of the St. Joseph Dad’s Club, St. Philip Athletic Association and Knights of Columbus Queen City Council #575. Woodie's greatest treasures in life remain as his surviving wife of 66 years, Lena Wood; his three sons: Mike (Mary) Wood of Sterling Heights, Tom (Susan) Wood of Battle Creek and Dave Wood of Dowling; his six grandchildren: Jason, Amy, Kelly, Jeremy, Marissa and Bonnie; his seven great-grandchildren: Madison, Mariyanna, Maxwell, Marley, Malachi, Kaylynn and Oliver;  his one surviving brother: Fabian (Ruth) Wood of Sturgis and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
