Marion E. Buser, 93, Rockford, IL, formerly of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 20, 1919, in Belfast, Ireland, the daughter of William L. and Marion E. Black. Marion lived in Cookstown, Northern Ireland, where she met her future husband, Melvin H. Buser Sr., while he was stationed in the Army. They were married on March 26, 1945, in Belfast, N. Ireland and moved to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1946. Marion was employed in various government agencies in Battle Creek for 24 years, retiring in 1981. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. Marion moved to Rockford in 1993, so that she could be near her grandchildren. She was a member and a volunteer at Midway Village Museum, Love’s Park Library, and the Center for Learning at Rock Valley College. Mrs. Buser is survived by her son, Melvin H. (Dee) Buser Jr. of Buckeye, AZ; her daughter, Colleen P. (Patricia White) Buser of Flagstaff, AZ; her granddaughter, Melanie E. Buser of Washington, D.C.; her grandson, David S. (Rachel) Buser of Schamburg; her great-granddaughter, Grace Buser; many nieces and nephews in Illinois and abroad. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, in March of 1969; her parents; and two brothers: James and David Black. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Richard Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey S. Carlson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Fort Custer National Cemetery.
