Marilyn Gibbs

Marilyn Louise Gibbs, age 74, of Battle Creek, died Thursday, June 10, 2021, at her home. She was born November 6, 1946, in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Harold and Mildred (Goepferd) Hook and was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek. Marilyn graduated from Lakeview High School in 1964 and Western Michigan University in 1969. She was an educator in the Lakeview School District for 30 years, from 1969 until her retirement in 2000. On December 19, 1970, she married Alan E. Gibbs. They wintered in Florida for the past 20 years and enjoyed international travel to many countries including Europe, Africa, Israel and Greece to name a few. Marilyn attended Battle Creek Community Church and enjoyed volunteering at local food pantries and the soup kitchen.  She is survived by her husband Alan Gibbs; children: Shauna (Bob) Karel of Byron Center, Sheryl Leaver of St. Clair, Mark (Lisa) Gibbs of Battle Creek and daughter-in-law Shari Gibbs of Battle Creek; nine grandchildren: Brandi Gibbs, Jamie (Patti) Gibbs, Lindsey Bassett, Allison (Nick) Gesink, Tara (Kyle) McAlpine, Madison Leaver, Peyton Leaver, Ryen Karel and Camden Karel; three great-grandchildren: Jacqueline, Charlee and Lucy, and baby boy Beau on the way; sister Darla (Jerry) Montague of Grand Rapids. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and son Mike Gibbs. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Proulx officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery.
