Marian Grimes

August 23, 1918 — October 5, 2016

Marian L. (Geiger) Nelson-Grimes passed peacefully on October 5, 2016, in Battle Creek, MI, at the age of 98.

Marian was born in Waverly, Iowa, on August 23, 1918, to Bertha Lindner & Augustus Geiger. She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Ruth, Roger, and Herald "Bud" Geiger.

In 1939 she married Melvin Charles Nelson, a Navy veteran during World War II, school teacher, superintendent, & coach. They had five children: Daniel Nelson, Diane Sue Nelson (Courbat), Michael James Nelson, Thomas Nelson, and Steven Bradley Nelson. Melvin passed away in 1975.

Marian’s different jobs were a full time mom, an English teacher and the Executive Secretary for the TB & Emphysema Association, where she retired after 23 years.

During the 1990’s, Marian married Norman Grimes. She moved to his farm in Bellevue, MI. Norm passed in 2004, and she moved back to Battle Creek.

She is survived by her son Steven, her 11 grandchildren: Missi Nelson-Kellogg and William Nelson, Christine Courbat-Garner, Benjamin Nelson, Brian Nelson, Sean Nelson, and James Nelson, Ami (Nelson) Williams, Joy (Nelson) Brown, Michael Nelson, Jr., and Luella Nelson, 17 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She was loved by so many, and will be greatly missed by all. She was a beautiful, strong, feisty, and loving woman, who touched the lives of everyone who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 10th, at 2:00 in the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel on Helmer Dr. N in Battle Creek. Visitation will be at 1:30.
