Margaret Spencer Meerman

Margaret “Peggy” Gloor Spencer Meerman, age 95, of Augusta passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018. She was born January 20, 1923 in LaPorte, Indiana the daughter of Augustav Emil-Jacob and Minnie L. (Jones) Gloor. Peggy had worked at Jacobson’s from 1940 to 1946 and retired from Consumers Energy in 1981. She was the former president of the Consumers Energy Women’s Club, Consumers Energy Retirees Kalamazoo Chapter and Consumers Energy Forerunners Retirees. Peggy was a supporter of Animal’s Best Friends, Inc. of Kalamazoo, and attended Grace Spring Bible Church and Yorkville Community Church. She loved caring for homes, her family, enjoying time spent with friends, boating and walking the beach in Florida. Peggy was preceded in death by her first husband of fifty-four years, Richard E. Spencer, Jr in 1997; her step-grandson, Nathan Todd Weddon in 1987, second husband Frederick Meerman in 2013, two sisters: Joan Louise Wilson and Betty Loraine Hirschy; brother James Frederick Gloor and two half-brothers: William and Jacob Gloor. Peggy is survived by three step-children: Karen Meerman (Gary) Levine of Augusta, Christine Meerman Gildea of Richland and Debra Meerman (Dan) VonBehren of Prospect, KY; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three special godchildren: Kelly, Katie and Janet Allen; four sisters-in-law:  Janet Hirschy, Sharon Spencer and Lee Spencer all of Florida and Marty Spencer of Michigan; a special nephew, Michael Wilson, Jr. of Ohio; many other nieces, nephews and friends whom she dearly loved. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Yorkville Community Church, 11523 E. D Avenue, Richland, MI with Rev. Juno Smalley officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Private entombment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
