Margaret Levitt, R.N.

Margaret “Peg” Levitt, R.N., age 91, of Dearborn, Michigan, and formerly of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013. She was born July 8, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Arthur and Loretta G. (Burns) Hallett. She moved to Battle Creek in 1930 where she graduated from Lakeview High School in 1939. Mrs. Levitt worked at Security National Bank from 1939 until 1943, then went on to attend Mercy College in Detroit, where she graduated in 1946. She later worked at Lakeview General Hospital from 1968 to 1979 and the Easter House Drug and Substance Abuse Clinic from 1982 until 1984. On November 9, 1948 she was united in marriage to Olin R. Levitt who preceded her in death on May 17, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her sister Lillian Schira. Surviving are three children: Mary Ann (Dudley) Dunham of West Dundee, IL, Dr. Robert Olin Levitt of Salt Lake City, UT, and Martha (Dr. George) Hnatiuk of Dearborn, MI; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister: Loretta Dugan of Battle Creek, MI; many in-laws and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Levitt had been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for over 76 years where she sang in the choir and served in the Altar Society. She also volunteered with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and was a member of the Mercy Nursing School Alumni. Peg embraced her life with enthusiasm.  She loved trying new recipes to serve to her many appreciative guests. She kept her family and friends always up-to-date with her newsy letters and phone calls. She energetically cheered for her sports teams. She played cards, traveled, golfed, and read, but she was always available for the people that she loved, and she graced their lives with her warmth and lively sense of humor. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions are given to The Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools Scholarship for St. Joseph Students. www.henryfuneralhome.org
