Marcelle Tooke

August 27, 1921 — February 27, 2016

Marcelle A. Tooke, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb 27, 2016. She was born August 27, 1921 to George S Jr. and Evalee (Ayers) Marshall of Nashville, Michigan. Marcelle attended the Moore School through the 8th grade, walking 2 miles each way. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1930, moving to Battle Creek in 1940.
She married Ronald W. Tooke from Ann Arbor, MI in 1942 while he was serving in the U.S. Army during WWII.  In 1948 she received her cosmetology license from Wright Beauty Academy and then went on to Argubright Business College (now known as Davenport University). In 1956 Marcelle entered into government service at the Battle Creek Federal Center and was the Executive Secretary to the Director of the National Civil Defense Staff College, retiring in 1980.
Marcelle was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church for over 60 years. She also belonged to several clubs and organizations including The National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was a 38 year member of The Marywood Country Club where her husband was an avid golfer.
She enjoyed going on bus tour groups for theater, visiting art museums, shopping and gardening. She loved to read, watch tennis matches on T.V. and spent many hours working in her beautiful flower garden. Marcelle also maintained a very close relationship with her three sisters during her entire lifetime. She was a very classy lady and will be dearly missed by all.
Marcelle was married for 59 years to her loving husband Ron who predeceased her in 2001. She was also predeceased by her sister Geneva Novak.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her sisters: Marquita Clements of Battle Creek, MI and Rosemary Hathaway of Okemos, MI, brother-in-law Larry Novak of Nashville, MI, nephews: Victor (Nancy) Schantz of Hastings, MI, Don (Michelle) Hathaway of Williamston, MI, nieces: Jeannie Smith of Battle Creek, MI, Lynn (Steve) Hoeksema of Lansing, MI, and JoAnn Hathaway of DeWitt, MI. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
