Msgt Louis Mrozovich, USMC Retired, Age 90, Of Battle Creek, Louis Mrozovich age 90, passed away at home on July 7, 2015. Louis was born to Steve and Katie (Matosich) Mrozovich on May 9, 1925 in Battle Creek, MI. He attended St. Phillip and Battle Creek public schools. In 1942 he enlisted in the Marine Corps on his birthday at age 17.
He completed boot camp at MCRD San Diego, Ca. After which he was sent to the pacific theatre. He participated in the Marshall Islands campaign and the battle of Okinawa. He was honorably discharged after the war in 1945. He worked as a car inspector for the Grand Trunk railroad from 1946 until 1952 when he reenlisted in the Marine Corps. He served as an armorer at the Kalamazoo reserve center until 1956. Then he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC where he attended water purification and utility chief schools. In 1960 he transferred to Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA where he served in the base maintenance dept. Here he met his wife of 52 years Dorothy Mathewson who was a Woman Marine. In 1964 he transferred to Camp Smith, Hawaii. From 1967 to 1968 he served with the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam. From 1968 he served at Quantico, VA as the facilities maintenance chief. He retired in 1973 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Some of his awards are the Navy Achievement medal with valor device, Asiatic-Pacific medal with star, WWII Victory medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, Vietnam Service medal with 4 stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm, Good Conduct medal 5th award, Presidential Unit Citation 2nd award, Meritorious Unit Citation. After retiring he took a job with the Lakeview school district as a maintenance man. He worked for the schools for 12 yrs. until his health forced him to retire. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Dorothy, children Steven (Irma) Mrozovich, Brenda (James) Richards, Susan (Kevin) McKinney, James Mrozovich, and stepdaughter Jeannie (Larry) Hyslop. Also surviving him are 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Matthew, John, Michael, Steven and sisters Eva, Donna Karaba, and Dorothy Head. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Richard A. Henry funeral home from 4PM to 7PM. Funeral services will held at 10:30AM on Monday, July 13, 2015 at the funeral home.
