Louis G. Hargus, 86, of East Leroy passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born on July 18, 1927 in Allred, TN to Bailey and Lee (Alred) Hargus. Louis was united in marriage to Ann Meacham on July 16, 1949 in Battle Creek; she preceded him in death Sept. 21, 2006. He served with the U.S. Marines during WWII in China. Louis was employed by Kellogg Company, at Lakeview Hardware from 1949-50, owned and operated a hardware and furniture store in Vicksburg from 1951-58, and then went to work at Sears in Battle Creek in 1958 until he retired in 1985. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #59 in Climax, Grand Rapids Shrine Club and Battle Creek Shrine Club. Louis served on the Athens School Board and was active in Township government. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl A. Dimond, of East Leroy and Debbie L. (Dan) Dintaman, of Plainwell, two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a brother, Enlow (Elaine) Hargus, a sister, Barbaranell Griffin, and several relatives in TN. Louis was also preceded in death by his brothers, Carl and Ray, and a sister, Maxine. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Chad Parmalee of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. A private interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Battle Creek Shrine Club
