Louis Adamov

Louis James Adamov, 96 of Battle Creek, died Thursday, August 25, 2011. He was born March 3, 1915 in Cincinnati, Ohio the son of George and Angeline (Miolich) Adamov and his family moved to Detroit shortly thereafter. At the age of 19, Louis bought a grocery store in Detroit which he operated until he was drafted into the Army on January 3, 1941. Upon his discharge as a Tech. Sergeant on November 7, 1945 he moved to Battle Creek and was the paymaster at Percy Jones Hospital until they closed. He then became the assistant finance officer at the V.A. Hospital for 30 years. Following his retirement, Louis began working as an investigator for Friend of the Court a position which he maintained for 4 years. He was an avid Tigers fan and as a boy sold peanuts at the old Tiger Stadium. Louis was also a fan of Michigan State University and at the age of 70 won his age group in the Leroy Sparks Lake Swim. He was the co-founder and past president of the Lakeview Exchange Club, former treasurer and trustee of Spartan Memorial Stadium, 3 term Calhoun County Commissioner, life member of Masonic Lodge #12 and a member of St. Elias Eastern Orthodox Church. He loved maintaining his yard, reading, nature and above everything else being with his family. On May 23, 1943 Louis was married to Bethel Jane (Boynton), who survives. Also surviving are two daughters: Suzanne Pifer and Kathy (Jeff) Samson both of Battle Creek; four grandchildren: Tami (Todd) Shawver, Timothy Pifer, Tina (Justin) Inks and Malia Samson; four great-grandchildren: Ashlyn and Jordan Shawver, Gavin Bass and Andreas Pifer. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Paul and Michael and two sisters: Olga and Joanne. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Panikhidas service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elias Eastern Orthodox Church, 5066 B Drive South, with The Very Rev. Timothy M.  Barna presiding. Interment with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
