Loretta Ann Dugan

Loretta Ann (Hallett) Dugan, age 94, of Battle Creek, passed away on Friday, January 24 with the support of her loving family.

Born on June 24, 1930, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Robert and Loretta (Burns) Hallett, Loretta moved with her parents and her older sisters Margaret and Lillian to Battle Creek as an infant. Loretta frequently reminisced about the fond memories she had of growing up in her home on Richards Place, where she established many childhood and high school friendships that she maintained for a lifetime. She was voted Homecoming Queen her senior year of high school, as well as class vice president. Loretta participated enthusiastically in theater, choir, and marching band, developing a love for music and the performing arts that she maintained for a lifetime. As a young adult, she performed in community theater productions, where she was equally adept performing in dramas as well as musicals.

Loretta attended college briefly, and held jobs at Kellogg’s and as a bank teller. Her ability with figures and organizational skills made her a natural fit for this job, one that she resumed following the time period during which she married and raised her family.

In 1957, Loretta married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Dugan. She embraced her role of homemaker, as she and Bob raised their two children. She also took great joy and pride participating in the lives of many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Loretta was blessed with a loving family and was extremely close with her sisters and parents. They all lived within a 10 block radius of each other, and were continuously in each other’s company. Countless holiday get togethers, birthday parties, quick visits, and phone calls brought her much comfort and happiness. Loretta loved all her family, and becoming a grandmother, and sharing in the joys and accomplishments of her grandchildren, was one of the great highlights of her life.

Loretta was very much a friendly, pleasant person with a good sense of humor who easily bonded with others. She loved the family dogs fortunate enough to share her household, and making yearly trips to Florida with Bob during their retirement years during which they made many close friends. Loretta was also a person of great faith, and was very involved in her church parish at St. Joseph. She sang in the choir, and volunteered with the Altar Society, and at the parish office.

In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her sisters Margaret (Olin) Levitt and Lillian (Gerald) Schira. She is survived by her children Lori Macy and Tim (Karen) Dugan, grandchildren Brett (Allison) Macy-Steines, Sean Macy, Meghan Macy, Janelle Dugan, Joanna Dugan, and Danielle Dugan, and great granddaughter Mae Macy-Steines, with another great granddaughter arriving in May. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., at the church with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be given to BCACS ( Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools). www.henryfuneralhome.org
