Lois Elizabeth (Adams) Flynn slipped from this life according to God’s plan on April 4th, 2023. She was born April 10, 1941, in Berwyn, Illinois to the late George and Virginia (Engman) Adams. The family moved to Palos Heights, Illinois where she and her 2 younger close-knit sisters grew up.
Lois graduated from Dwight D. Eisenhour High School in 1959 and then attended Elmhurst University in Elmhurst, IL for I year. She married Fred Oswalt in 1960 and moved to Battle Creek in 1964. Lois’ marriage to Fred ended in divorce in 2000. She married her high school sweetheart in 2004, Colin Flynn. Colin was from Denver, Colorado, but they chose to live in Battle Creek where Lois’ grandchildren were located because Colin had no grandchildren at the time. They happily celebrated life together for almost 19 years.
Lois’ faith was central to her life, and she was a wonderful disciple of Jesus Christ in the way she lived her life; showing love and kindness to everyone without exception. She was very active in her home church (First Wesleyan Church now Woodland Church) and taught Sunday School for years showing the children, whom she loved so much, how a strong faith would help them grow to be happy loving adults. Her students have only fond memories of “Mrs. Lois”.
In the 1970s, Lois was the receptionist for the Oswalt in-home dental practice. She was also a receptionist for the Upward Bound program. Lois then worked for the Kellogg foundation as an Executive Secretary until the Foundation eliminated her division, and she then worked for the Delton School System in their Head Start programs. Later, Lois worked for Dave Lucas Optometrist and continued with that firm after Todd Stagner became the Owner. Lois loved working for these Optometrists and particularly the girls on staff. She was exceptional as a receptionist/secretary and the patients were always welcomed and put at ease by her caring personality. Every day was fun day at work until she retired in 2016.
Lois is remembered by her loving husband, Colin; son, Michael (Tammy) Oswalt; step daughter, Stephanie (David) Taylor; grandsons, David and Nicholas Oswalt; granddaughter, Megan (Hollie) Oswalt; step granddaughter, Carter Taylor; sisters, Karen (Bill, deceased) Mills and Anne (James) Farmer; as well as many more relatives and close friends.
She knew she would see, in heaven, all those she loved so much who had gone before her and particularly looked forward to seeing her mother and father. She had such a wonderful childhood with her parents and her sisters and would often reminisce about her growing up years in her close family. She loved her life, family, friends and most of all her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Celebration will be held April 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, 703 Capital Avenue SW, Battle Creek, Michigan 49015. A Visitation with the family will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the Memorial following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lois’ honor to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas PL., Memphis, TN 38105
