Lloyd R. “Rusty” Larner, 91, of Battle Creek passed away Friday February 8, 2013 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born on July 9, 1921 in Chesaning Twp., Saginaw County to Jay S. and Ervena (Van Sickle) Larner. Lloyd graduated from Chesaning High School in1939. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Lloyd was united in marriage to Gladys C. Bonke on May 28, 1949 in Battle Creek, she preceded him in death on January 19, 2009. He was employed by Weston Biscuit Company, Duplex Printing Press Company, Allen Industrial Products, Oliver Electrical Manufacturing Company, and Dare Products for 18 years until he retired in 1987. Lloyd is survived by four sons, Frederick C. Larner, of Battle Creek, Michael T. (Loretta) Larner, of Augusta, Joseph A. (Susan) Larner, of Burlington, and Bernard J. Larner, of Battle Creek, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two brothers, George E. (Marilyn) Larner and Thomas N. (Nancy) Larner, both of Chesaning. He was also preceded in death by a sister Beatrice M. Larner and a brother and sister-in-law, Albert Lester and Evelyn Larner. Lloyd was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and American Legion Post # 298. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and gardening. Lloyd was an avid baseball player and fan. Family will receive friends from 1pm to 3pm and 5pm to 7pm Wednesday Feb. 13, 2013 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited at 6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 am Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Very Rev. Mark Vyverman V.F. officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be given to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence or Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools Tuition Assistance Fund.
