Lawrence Harris

Lawrence “Larry” Harris, Jr., age 92 of Battle Creek, passed away Monday May 23, 2016 at the Thornapple Manor. He was born December 1, 1923 in Pullman, Michigan the son of Lawrence and Esther (Newton) Harris. Larry served in the Army for three years during WWII. He had been a meat cutter, salesman and worked in quality control at Clark Equipment Company. In his retirement he delivered the Senior Times and Scene Magazine. Larry was a member of First Wesleyan Church where he served as an usher, was a member of the church board as a trustee, member of the Monday Night Men’s Bible Study and the We Care Ministry. He loved serving in his church and being with his family. On April 1, 1945 he was married to Beatrice “Betty” (Buyce) of Bangor, Michigan and she preceded him in death on June 14, 2010. He was also preceded by a daughter: Nancy L. Winkler; brothers: Robert, Everett, Leighton and Eugene Harris; and a sister: Charlotte Ruth. Larry is survived by his children: Sue (Lynn) Burgett of Ceresco, Mary Jane (Ralph) Harper of Middleville and David (Joyce) Harris of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother: Allen Harris of Bloomingdale; sisters: Donna Revilla of South Haven, Martha Carpenter of Bangor, Betty Hinz of South Haven, Mary Holden of Otsego and Judy Thar of Bloomindale; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2016 at the First Wesleyan Church with Rev. Dr. Robert L. Zuhl officiating. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at church of Friday. Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
