Larry A. VanAuken, 68 of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was born on June 21, 1948 in Battle Creek, the son of Merle and Veryl VanAuken. Larry was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather with a passion for his family, friends and the great out-of-doors (especially Beaver Island, MI.!) In 1966, he graduated from Battle Creek Central High School; Larry served with the Air Force/ANG in the fire-fighting division for several years. During his service time, he met and married the love of his life, Jill Russell. The two were united in marriage on March 8, 1969 in Battle Creek to start their journey in life together. Larry and Jill were blessed with two beautiful children, Lara and Troy, 1969 and 1972 respectively. After fulfilling his time with the Air National Guard, Larry spent the next 14 years working in the maintenance department, and as a union steward for Clark Equipment Company in Springfield, MI., until his retirement when Clarks closed. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed bowling, playing pool, and spending vacation time on the family property on Beaver Island. He was an avid sports fan following several teams, including the Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons, and the Detroit Tigers. Larry also enjoyed having many pets over the years, his latest being a golden retriever, Precious, that recently preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his father; Merle VanAuken, mother; Veryl VanAuken, eldest brother; Dennis VanAuken, and twin brother; Gary VanAuken. Larry is survived by his wife; Jill VanAuken of Battle Creek, daughter; Lara (Lane) Isaacs of Battle Creek, son; Troy (ReaDonna) VanAuken of Battle Creek, grandchildren; Joshua, Devin, Vanessa, Jayden, and one great-grandchild. In accordance to his wishes, cremation has taken place, a memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, Pastor Travis Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to service.
