Kenneth Smith

Kenneth R. Smith, Age 88, Of Ceresco, Passed away on August 22, 2016, surrounded by his family. Kenneth was born on May 1, 1928, the son of Ray and Anna (Johnson) Smith. He had been a lifelong resident of the area growing up in Bethel Township south of Athens. He graduated from Athens High School in 1945. On April 12, 1952, he was united in marriage to the former Morita E. “Rita” Bigelow who preceded him in death in 2013. He worked for Cushman Buick, owned and operated Ken’s Auto Service, and later was a Millwright for Hackett Construction retiring after 30 years of service.  Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming, loved camping, photography, BMW motorcycles and being with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by a son, Kenny Ray (Pamela) Smith Jr. of Battle Creek; daughters, Debra Smith of Battle Creek, Sherry Smith of Palo Alto, CA and Katherine Clayman of Battle Creek; grandchildren, B.J. (Candy) Smith, Zachary (Melissa) Smith and Megan (John) Ridge; great grandchildren, Kalyn and Kyler Smith, Jordan Gilg and Jaden Delapas; a brother, Lynn (Joyce) Smith; sisters, Louise Ives and Lyla Smith; his 20 year old cat “Punky”.  He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Alan Smith; brothers, Lloyd Smith and Von Smith; sisters, Myrtle McSherry, Lois Burkhardt; sister-in-law, Becky Smith; brothers-in-law, Nile Burkhardt and Gerald Ives. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2016, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with visitation held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Leroy Congregational Cemetery. Memorials may be made to S.A.F.E.  Place. www.henryfuneralhome.org
