Keith E. Bernard Jr, 89, of Battle Creek passed away Friday September 28, 2012 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He was born on February 19, 1923 in Clawson, MI to Keith E. and Mabel (Caulkins) Bernard.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Keith was united in marriage to Arlene A. O’Connell on March 23, 1947 in Battle Creek. He was in the construction business for 25 years in California before moving back to Battle Creek in 1974. Keith was employed at General Motors in Kalamazoo from 1974 until he retired in 1987.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene A., a son, Larry K. Bernard, of Romoland, CA; daughters, Peggy L. (Mark) Palmer, of Alpine, CA; Karen S. (Gene) Holley, of Battle Creek, Cindy J. (Mike) Stasio, of Dayton, Ohio; M. Diane (John) Palmer, of Canyon Lake, CA; and Becky E. (Greg) McDonald, of Battle Creek, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a sister, Frances (Robert) Smitherson, of Delton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Tierce.
Keith was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church and American Legion Post # 298. He enjoyed traveling, feeding the birds, woodworking, fishing, and remodeling homes. Keith especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm Monday October 1, 2012 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am Tuesday at St. Philip Catholic Church with The Rev. Frances Marotti officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, American Cancer Society, or ASPCA.
