Kathleen M. Wallenfang, Age 59, Of Battle Creek, Kathleen Marie Wallenfang nee Drake died at home on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. She was born on April 30, 1956 in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. Kathy was a perfectionist who rarely made a mistake. Her sarcasm was constant but never cruel. She was a resourceful craftsperson who added whimsical details to every cross-stitch pattern, home decorating project, and Halloween costume.
After graduating from high school in 1974, Kathy worked for the federal government where she met her husband, Tom. They lived in Huntsville, Alabama and Morgantown, West Virginia before settling in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Kathy worked as a special education teacher’s aide in the Lakeview School District for 14 years; she organized and later served as president of AFSCME Council 25, Local 331. She worked many thankless, off-the-clock hours to elevate her profession for the benefit of kids who needed extra attention.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Tom Wallenfang. She is also remembered by her mother Joan; daughter Sara; son Jesse; and siblings Steve, Gary and Peggy; and a large extended family. Her father Charles passed away in 1993. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2015, at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Morgan Cemetery.
