Kathleen Jean “Kathy W-14” Oldenburg Weickersheimmer went home to her Lord Saturday, January 24, 2025. She was 82 years old. Kathy was born in Muskegon, Michigan. She was a retired Nurse Practitioner. Kathy was a member of Harper Creek Baptist Church where she served as a teacher, choir member, and was active in Women’s Ministries and led the choir. She and her sister, Corky Collins, and good friend Barb Malcuit Throop sang in many venues and were known simply as “The Trio”. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marguerite (Bennink) Oldenburg; brothers Bob, Rollie and David as well as sisters Marilyn Mobley and Coral Lynn “Corky” Collins. Kathy is survived by son Larry Weickersheimmer, daughter Heidi Austead, brother-in-law Charles W. “Chuck” Collins, sister-in-law Katherine Nelle Oldenburg as well as several nieces and nephews. Kathy had a wealth of stories about the many places she had lived and worked. She helped her father run a Christian radio station in Alaska. There she had occasion to catch salmon by hand in ice cold stream, often with bears in the vicinity. Kathy graduated from the University of Colorado in 1986 with a degree in nursing as a Gerontology Nurse Practitioner. She lived for a time in New York, eventually moving to Mississippi where she established a clinic in a remote region for folks with no access to health care. She told of returning home and finding payment wandering the yard in the form of chickens! For a time, she worked with the children’s choir, the youth group and the youth choir at Temple Baptist Church. Kathy and her sister, Corky, had a puppet ministry with the youth group that is still fondly remembered and mentioned in current conversations. Later in her retirement Kathy developed a love for bass fishing and enjoyed going at every opportunity. She caught a 4 lb. 3 oz. bass and teased Corky at every chance. No one dared admit Corky caught one bigger. Kathy never met a stranger who wasn’t a friend by the time they were through talking and she had witnessed about her faith in Christ. Kathy loved the Lord and continued to share Bible readings with the residents at the assisted living home. Her passion was always faith, family and care giving. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Harper Creek Baptist Church, 13222 Beadle Lake Road, Battle Creek, Michigan., Pastor Tim Smothers officiating. Light refreshments will follow the service. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to Alternatives of Battle Creek or Harper Creek Baptist Church.
