Kathleen Dickert

Kathleen  A.  Dickert, Age 90, Went to join her Lord peacefully on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at the Paula J. Barber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, IA, with loved ones at her side. Kathleen was born in Sedan, KS, on July 23, 1921 to Emery and Myrtle (Ostland) Cooper. She graduated with a teaching degree from Pittsburg State University in Kansas and later joined her parents who moved to Battle Creek. She sang and entertained troops at the USO, Percy Jones Hospital, the Masonic Temple and the enlisted mans club in Fort Custer where she met the love of her life, John R. Dickert who played in various bands. They were married March 23, 1947 in Battle Creek. She worked at Oliver Manufacturing for a time before starting their family. She rejoined the teaching profession in 1961 at Washington School as a kindergarten teacher and retired from there in 1981. She is still fondly remembered by many of her students today. She was a member of the Community Chorus and volunteered at the balloon festival for many years. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church, Retired Teachers Assn., the MEA, NEA, ADK, SIA Teachers Sorority and a PSU Alumni. In 2008 she moved to FT Dodge to spend time with her Iowa family and was most recently residing at the Villa Cottages. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband John on June 7, 1988, two brother-in-laws and a daughter-in-law. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Stone of Brevard, NC: her children, Ruth Anne Morris (Bill Holder) and Bob Dickert both of Battle Creek, Diane (Steve) Pratt of Ft. Dodge, IA; Debra Isenhour of Westland, MI; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two nephews. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the funeral home with The Rev. Dr. Morris F. Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be left in Kathleen’s name to the American Cancer Society or the Almost Home Humane Society in Ft. Dodge, IA. www.henryfuneralhome.org
