Karen K. VanDorsten, Age 74, Of Battle Creek, Died Monday, July 27, 2015, in Battle Creek. Karen was born on September 4, 1940, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Glenn M. and Faye (Dixon) DeVault. She had been a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Battle Creek Central High School. She then attended Central Michigan University then Michigan State University earning a Master’s Degree in Education. She was a teacher at Sonoma Elementary for 2 years then worked for the Department of Human Services for 32 years until her retirement. In April of 1963, she married Charles H. VanDorsten III who survives. Karen enjoyed organizing her class reunions, was an avid bingo player and enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren. Surviving are daughters, Tara Kulpinski and Dejah (Biff) Gardner; grandchildren, Sinda VanDorsten, Kayleigh Browne, Melissa (Anthony) Molson, Robert Browne, Jr., Glenn Kulpinski and Torei Kulpinski; 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachell Kaye VanDorsten in 1989. Visitation will be held Friday from 12 to 2:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. www.henryfuneralhome.org
