Karen A. Gignac, Age 76, Of Battle Creek, Died Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Heritage Assisted Living. Karen was born on January 21, 1937, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Alfred W. and Marquerite (Moon) Christenson. She had been a resident of the area since 1976 coming from Dayton, OH. She was a 1955 graduate of Redford High School and a 1958 graduate of Wheaton College. On December 27, 1958, she was united in marriage to Stanley E. Gignac, Jr. who preceded her in death on May 9, 2012. Karen was employed as a teacher at East Detroit High School for 6 years, Dayton area schools for 6 years, Head Start in Battle Creek and then the Federal Center for 12 years. She was a member of Southside Bible Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Awana Leader and was in the church choir. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, sewing, stamping, Fox News and candle making. Surviving are children, Michael (Parri) Gignac of Bellevue and Michelle (Brent) Swan of Battle Creek; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; brothers, Robert (Mardie) Christenson, Vic (Janet) Christenson and a sister-in-law, Jean Christenson; sisters, Margaret Ottoson and Sally (Dean) Glasco. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1968 and a brother Bill Christenson. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at South Side Bible Church with Pastor Michael R. Brown officiating. Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
