Joyce Ann Smith, age 79, of East Leroy, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017. She was born August 30, 1937 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Herschel and Marguerite (Cline) Olmstead. A 1955 graduate of Athens High School, Joyce was a lifelong resident of East Leroy. She worked 25 ½ years at Kellogg’s, retiring in 1992 and spent winters in Texas with her husband “Boze”. On September 2, 1956, she was married to Lynn A. “Boze” Smith who preceded her in death on February 5, 2017. She was also preceded by her daughter Larine Walstead, brother Max Olmstead and her parents. Joyce was a member of East Leroy Community Church where she had served as organist, pianist, band and choir leader. A life member of the Athens VFW Post 5319 Auxiliary, she was also a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club, and enjoyed camping, music, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce is survived by her children: Lynne (Fred) Haack of Sherwood, Janette (Jon) VanMiddlesworth of Climax and Jolyn (Darrell) Sargent of Hamilton, Ohio; son-in-law, David Walstead of East Leroy; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; brother Lawrence (Jane) Olmstead of Battle Creek; sister-in-law Peggy Olmstead of Battle Creek, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2017 at the Funeral Home with interment to follow at Leroy Congregational Cemetery.
