Joyce A. Black, age 76, of Burlington, died Friday, February 7, 2014 at Eaton Community Palliative Care. She was born August 11, 1937 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Harold and Gertrude (Reams) McConnell. Joyce graduated from Olivet High School and had worked most recently at Mr. Don’s Restaurant in Battle Creek and The Whistle Stop in Burlington. She enjoyed camping, square dancing and quilting. Joyce was a life member and past president of Athens V.F.W. Post 5319 Auxiliary and was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge where she received the award of Senior Regent. On December 31, 1982 Joyce was married to Arthur “Art” Black in Union City and he preceded her in death on January 13, 2010. She was also preceded by her parents, one sister Virginia O’Kane and two grandsons: Ryan Black and Richard Otis.
Surviving are four children: Charles F. (Janet) Day of Marshall, Judith (Gene) DePuy of Battle Creek, Cathy Weller of Union City and Karen Stranc of Burlington; four step-children: Stuart (Debra) Black of Bellevue, Dale A. (Lou) Black, Kelly D. Black and Susan M. Otis all of Battle Creek; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Gladys Rose of Olivet, Rosemary (Earl) Wood of Charlotte and Darlene (Don) Davis of Potterville.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with interment to follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society. www.henryfuneralhome.org
