Joyce “Joy” Bishop, Age 78, Of Battle Creek, It is with extreme sadness that the family of Joy Bishop announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law and friend on May 27, 2014, due to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). She was born on June 16, 1935, to Marjorie and Frederick J. Armentrout in West Mansfield, OH. She was a graduate of Lakeview High School. She received her BA Degree from Albion College. While there she was a member of Beta Beta Beta, National Biological Honorary, Alpha Chi Omega, National Social Sorority and was Homecoming Queen her junior year. She received her MA in Counseling/Psychology from Western Michigan University. She was an administrator at Olivet College and later became a counselor at Kellogg Community College. She held this position for over thirty years, while at KCC she became President of the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. She held Michigan licenses in both counseling and social work. She was selected to be a member of the Battle Creek Leadership Academy. She received the Masters in Teaching Award for teaching exercise classes in the Lakeview Continuing Education Program. Joy also received the Bruin Starfish Award while at KCC. She was President of the Battle Creek Day Care, which at the time had four centers in Battle Creek. She also held offices with the American Association of University Women and the Battle Creek Kennel Club. Joy was also an avid world traveler, having visited over 25 countries. She is survived by her son, Thomas Bishop of Battle Creek; a brother, Frederick S. Armentrout; son-in-law, Scott Sears of Scotland, CT and three grandchildren. Joy was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Belinda Sears, MD and her beloved Borzoi “Rose”. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. www.henryfuneralhome.org
