Joyce Ashley

Joyce E. Ashley, age 83, of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born May 1, 1935 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Bryan J. and Genevieve A. (Locke) Taylor. A 1953 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, she worked at Calhoun Federal Savings and Loan as a stenographer from 1953 to 1959. On June 24, 1960, Joyce married Karl E. Ashley. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2002. Joyce enjoyed all types of needlework including quilting. She tied quilts for the Charitable Union and did miscellaneous sewing for them. She was a former member of the Cal-Co Quilters Guild and a member of the Lt. Harold J. Payette Ladies Auxiliary 565. Joyce is survived by her sons: Martin L. Ashley of Battle Creek and Denis (Jackie) Ashley, D.O. of Silverdale, Washington; two grandsons: Michael D. and Kevin N. Ashley both of Silverdale, Washington and one cousin Nancy L. Owen of St. Petersburg, Florida. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Patricia Weatherwax of The First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Humane Society of South-Central Michigan. www.henryfuneralhome.org
