Joy Spoor

Joy Evelyn Spencer Spoor, age 75, of Athens, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. She was born September 10, 1942 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Paul D. and Evelyn (Roush) Spencer. Joy was a graduate of Athens High School, received a Master of Education from Western Michigan University and was a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago. She was a kindergarten teacher for Athens Area Schools for over 30 years. Joy married James L. Spoor on December 24, 1970 in Athens. She has been a lifelong resident of the Athens area where she and her husband owned and operated Spencer Family Funeral Home for many years. Joy is survived by her loving husband Jim; two nieces: Paula (Tom) Coleman of Battle Creek and Tomissa (LJ) Smittendorf of Fulton; four great-nieces: Meghann and Mallory Coleman both of Los Angeles, California, and Ashley and Jenny Smittendorf both of Kalamazoo.
