Joseph John Tubilewicz, Sr., 87 of Battle Creek, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods. He was born July 6, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Mary (Belaski) Tubilewicz. Joe graduated from Lane Technical High School in Chicago and enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. Overseas duty stations included Japan, Germany, Formosa and Korea. He was also stationed at Army Posts in Michigan, Missouri, Georgia and New Jersey. SFC (E-7) Joe Tubilewicz retired from the U.S. Army in 1966 after 23 years of honorable service. He received the Army Commendation Medal for instructional duty at the Signal Corps School at Fort Monmouth, N.J. After retirement from the U.S. Army, he worked for the Kellogg Company for 20 years as an Instrument Repairman, retiring in 1986. On December 7, 1946 Joe married Dorothy Dean Dennis at Fort Custer and they were married 64 years. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; son: Joseph (Kathy) Tubilewicz, Jr. who resides in South Haven; daughter: Susan (John) Lampas who resides in Battle Creek and daughter: Lou Kreis who resides in Westlake Village, CA. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Victory (Jay) Ashmore, Tracy (Jeff) Harrison, Kristen (Trent) Carithers, James J. (Mary) Lampas, Catalin Kreis and Kenan Kreis; and six great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter Tubilewicz. Joe enjoyed bowling, softball, golf, polka dancing and double deck pinochle. He loved animals, especially dogs and his golden retriever “Sarge”. He was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church and the Polish National Alliance (PNA) Lodge 2416. Joe’s family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
