Joseph Larock

August 24, 1926 — February 18, 2013

Joseph C. Larock, 86, of Battle Creek passed away Monday February 18, 2013 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born on August 24, 1926 in Sharpsburg, PA to Nickolas and Gertrude (Greshler) Larock. Joseph was in the U.S. Navy on the LST 920 during WWII. He served in both the European and Pacific Theaters. Joe began his career with the Federal Government at Ft. Rucker, AL. He also was a government employee in Vietnam for nineteen months. Mr. Larock was on the team that created the Defense Property Disposal Service at the Federal Center and was instrumental in establishing the Property Disposal Intern Program. Joe retired in August 1981 after a 34 year federal government career. He was inducted as a charter member in the DRMS Hall of Fame, 1992. Joe and his wife Minnie were pen pals for thirteen years prior to meeting on Nov. 11, 1947. They were united in marriage on Feb. 2, 1948 and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Joseph is survived by his wife, Minnie M. Larock, daughters, Rosemary (Terry) Fulling, of Battle Creek, MI; Vickey (Fred) Zeithammel, of Floresville, TX; Anita (Scott) Plummer, of Coffee Springs, AL; six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Greshler. Joseph was a member of Federal Center Employees Association, Battle Creek Federal Center Retirees, and LST Association. He enjoyed fishing, reading, golfing, playing cribbage, and hunting. Family will receive friends on Thursday February 21, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Colleen Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Humane Society of South Central Michigan or Trinity Lutheran Church
