Joseph Gordon Dayton, age 88, of Battle Creek, died Thursday, November 26, 2015. He was born June 22, 1927 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of Frank and Mable (VanLeer) Dayton. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII under the command of General Patton, from February 1945 to April 1947. Following his honorable discharge he worked for the City of Battle Creek retiring on June 30, 1989 after 38 years of service. Joseph married Edwina Louise (Hensley) on November 16, 1951 and she preceded him in death on April 10, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 18 brothers and two sisters. Surviving are five children: Marsha (John) Compton, Margo (Bob) Teller, Joe (Iris) Dayton, Richard (Connie) Dayton and Robert (Treva) Dayton; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
