Joseph Baines

Passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. Joseph was born on March 27, 1931, in Battle Creek, the son of Harry L. and Elsa J.(Hoppus) Baines. He had been a lifelong resident of the area graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 1950. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force and then was employed with the Michigan Air National Guard for 38 years as an aircraft maintenance Technician retiring in 1986. On August 5, 1951, he was united in marriage to the former Joyce Y. Sage who survives. Joseph was a member of the U.S. Air Force Association, U.S. Air Force Sergeants Association, American Legion Post 298 and the BMW Motorcycle Club of Battle Creek. He enjoyed antique cars and motorcycles especially his 1967 El Camino. Surviving are his children, Daniel L. (Rebecca) Baines, Debra L. Holmes, Douglas E. Baines and Darrell R. (Jeannie) Baines; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Robert L. Baines and William B. Baines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Elsa Baines and a sister, Virginia Holt.  In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place.  A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
