Johnny "John" Hargis

Johnny “John” Lester Hargis, Age 72, Of Springfield, MI, Died Thursday, July 7, 2016, at his residence. Johnny “John” was born on April 17, 1944, in Battle Creek, the son of William J. and Arliene (Budd) Hargis. He was a graduate of Bellevue High School and was formerly a resident of Bellevue before moving to Battle Creek. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was employed with GTW/CN Railroad for 38 years. In December 1966 he married Juanita Ryan which later ended in divorce.  In 1980 he was united in marriage to Barbara O’Donnell who preceded him in death in 2001. He loved his grandchildren, family time, farming, raising hogs and cattle, hunting, fishing, and playing cards.  He enjoyed hanging out with the Thursday Bellevue Board Meetings, Rat Pack and his Weezer family.  Surviving are his sons, Johnny Hargis Jr. and Dustin (Cori) Hargis of Battle Creek; daughter Sandy (Brian) Moffat of Marshall, MI; Step sons, Andy (Doreen) Ryan of Livermore, CO., Claude Ryan of Climax, MI., step daughter, Kathleen Robinson of Battle Creek.   14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father in 1972, his mother in 1989, brother, Dennis Hargis in 2003, and a sister, Sandra Frisk in 2008. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home with The Rev. Dr. James M. Gysel. Interment with full military honors will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. www.henryfuneralhome.org
