John M. Myers, 75, passed away peacefully September 26, 2015. John was born in Battle Creek on November 8, 1939, the youngest child of Orlow and Kathryn (Brown) Myers. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Edna (Thompson), children Christy (Dave) Jensen of Omaha, NE, Tim (Denise) Myers of Grand Rapids, Debbie Myers of Hillsborough, NC, and four grandchildren: Cameron, Jake, and Delaney Myers of Grand Rapids, and Evan Jensen of Omaha. Also surviving are brother Kenneth (Nancy) Myers of Novi, MI, Janeis Yunt of Port Orange, FL, special in-laws Shirley (Thompson) and Bob Brown and many nieces and nephews. John served his country honorably and proudly for six years in the United States Coast Guard. He worked for many years as a carpet and tile installer, primarily at LG McDaniel and Battle Creek Tile & Mosaic. John also worked at the Battle Creek Veteran’s Hospital for 18 years, retiring in 2005. John was known for his love of classic cars and enjoyed showing his award winning 1962 Chevy Impala convertible at several car shows around the area. He also drove his car for many years in the Urbandale Homecoming Parade. During his younger years, John spent many hours roller skating at Skateland, where he developed a love of organ music. Later in life, he enjoyed dancing, golfing, playing dominoes, and spending time with his family and friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 30, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. Memorial service will take place Thursday, October 1, 11:30am at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
