John Gerald Moffett, 71, of East Leroy, Michigan passed away on March 26, 2014. He was called home by his Lord, and his daughter Michelle was there to welcome him. Born on October 26, 1942, John was affectionately known as “Pug” by his schoolmates at Athens High School. Someone said the Lord had a car show in Heaven and needed John there to manage it. Three of his best friends, Jim Domingo, Jim Hoesing and Larry Radcliff have been saving a parking spot for a long time and have a lot to catch up on with John. John and Larry are the founders of the Southern Michigan Street Rod Association since 1967 and were involved in bringing street rods to Michigan. John was the Michigan State Representative for the National Street Rod Association (NSRA). Cars and family were the most important to him; and John could talk about cars all day long. He was a hard worker and worked two jobs to support his car hobby and car parts. He worked for the Kellogg Company for 32 years, retiring 17 years ago. He is survived by his loving wife, of 52 years, Constance “Connie”; children: Johna (Mike) Bard, Andria (Randall) Brenner, John (Olivia) Moffett Jr. and Kelly (Scott) Walkinshaw; sister Raola (Ernie) Rice; best friend Bill Luke; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Michelle; sister, Ann “Boots” (Harvey) McCall; brother, Oliver “Buddy” Moffett; and his parents Andrew and Julia Moffett.
