John Mason Hooker, Age 60, Of Kalamazoo, formerly of Battle Creek, Died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in Kalamazoo. John was born on July 10, 1952, in Battle Creek, the son of Harold A. and Betty F. Hooker-Traer. He was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and graduated from Kellogg Community College, Kalamazoo College and the University of Michigan receiving his Master’s Degree in Theatre Arts. John was a former instructor of theatre at Olivet College and at Interlochen Arts Academy prior to his work in higher education development. John had a passion for teaching and appreciated all forms of art. He enjoyed reading and had a passion for antique furniture and vintage movies. Surviving is his wife, Barbara G. Hooker of Conroe, TX; his mother, Betty F. Traer of Kalamazoo; sisters, Carol (Roger) Mattens of Richland and Susan (Sam) Wilkof of Canton, OH; 5 nephews and 5 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold A. Hooker in 1965. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., in the Kiva Auditorium at Friendship Village. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2013, in the Kiva Auditorium at Friendship Village, 1400 North Drake Rd., Kalamazoo, MI.
