Died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at his home. John was born on February 18, 1928, in Mikado, Michigan the son of John W. and Caroline (Struthers) Goddard. John was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. On November 30, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former Beverly A. Harmon who survives. John came to Battle Creek in 1946 where he met his future wife Beverly at Holmes Ford Garage, where he was a wrecker driver. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in November of 2017. They enjoyed many years of square dancing and spent several months floating down Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee on a river boat. He was employed as a delivery driver for Sullivan Dairy, he worked as a chef at the American Legion and was a contractor for Associated Construction. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church. John enjoyed many seasons moose and elk hunting, fishing trips in Canada, gardening, farming, deer hunting and fishing trips at the cabin in Kalkaska and volunteer work at church. Surviving are a daughter, Cindy K. Goddard of Augusta, one grandchild and two great grandchildren; a sister, Eunice (George) Silverthorn of Midland, MI. He was preceded in death by a son, Rick A. Goddard in 1986. John came from a family of 13 children all raised on a farm in Mikado, MI. He was a very special father to daughter Cindy, loving grandfather to Tammy and a very loving great grandfather to Hanah and Jessie. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the First Congregational Church, with visitation one hour prior to service. Pastor Thomas Ott officiating. Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice or the First Congregational Church. Arrangements by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
